Volunteer with Fossil Free California

Join Fossil Free California volunteers in fighting for a just transition to a low-carbon economy through education, direct action, research, and building connections with unions, individuals, and organizations.

Volunteers power Fossil Free California's action in every way from board members, team coordinators, action planners, team members, and even completing short term projects

Join a Team

Many of our volunteers love the community found on our teams. Each team meets on a regular basis to work towards self-determined goals such as pressuring the CalSTRS pension fund to divest or supporting and introducing low carbon transition legislation.

Our Divestment Bill Team support the Divestment Coalition in targeting CalPERS, CalSTRS, and other public pension funds in the Golden State with legislative and executive initiatives around divestment, reinvestment, and climate justice.

Our Union Team organizes to gain union support for divesting the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) from fossil fuels by learning how to organize unions, researching union targets, and mobilizing unions to support divestment.

The CalSTRS Team is pushing the California State Teachers Retirement System to divest from fossil fuels by organizing direct actions, engaging in research, and coordinating divestment resolutions in local California Teachers Association chapters.

The Collaborating for Climate Justice Team amplifies frontline campaigns fighting to end the disproportionate damage fossil fuels have on low-income communities and communities of color.

Our Communications Team supports our campaigns, educates the public, and inspires climate action through art, words, social media, and other projects.

Fossil Free California's Fundraising Team seeks funding to support all of the campaign work carried out by other teams, including grants, donations, and fundraising events.

Our Student Working Group gives high school and university students an opportunity to support Fossil Free California's campaigns through independently-led projects in their area of choice (including research, communications, and fundraising).
