May 7: #StopLine3 Global Day of Action
For the past 7 years, Indigenous communities and allies across the Midwest have been working to shut down Enbridge’s Line 3 pipeline because it violates treaties and spells destruction for the land, water, and climate. Indigenous-led water protectors have protested, chained themselves to earth-moving equipment, and run miles in freezing weather to bring more than 400,000 petition signatures to President Biden.
On May 7, a coalition of groups are mounting worldwide protests with Stop the Money Pipeline to bring the fight to the banks that fund Line 3. Pipelines take billions of dollars to build – and banks like JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citibank, Bank of America, TD Ameritrade, Union Bank – as well as insurers like Liberty Mutual – are key to enabling the pipeline construction. Without project funding and insurance provided by loans and underwriting, work would come to a halt. If we can urgently push the banks to stop funding Line 3 — we can stop this pipeline
If you’re within reach of San Francisco, join Extinction Rebellion, Global Oil & Gas Network, Fossil Free California, and other Allies on May 7! We are mobilizing bright and early in San Francisco’s Financial District to send a clear message to the banks and investors: #DefundLine3.
Or, create or find an action near you! There are confirmed actions in 35+ US cities / 20 states. Actions also in London, Geneva, Holland, Costa Rica, Sierra Leone + Toronto & Ottawa.
